TRAVEL AWARDS AND GRANTS

Late travel award applications (submitted after June 4th) will be accepted and evaluated from eligible applicants on a continuous basis.

A limited number of travel awards will be available to undergraduate and graduate students and post-doctoral members of The Meteoritical Society. The purpose of the financial support is to enable conference participation of early career researchers with limited sources of funding. 

 

Applicants must be:

  1. A member of The Meteoritical Society.

  2. The sole or senior author of a submitted abstract.

  3. The presenter of the talk/poster.

 

To apply, applicants must:

1)    Submit an abstract as sole or senior author.

2)    Complete the application (including one-page resume/CV), which can be downloaded HERE.

3)    Email the SIGNED application to the Chair of the Travel Award Committee.

 

All travel grant applications and related materials must be submitted to the Chair of the Travel Award Committee, Dr. Jemma Davidson, at jdavidson at asu.edu no later than June 4, 2021 (one day after the abstract deadline). The form must be signed by a supervisor for all student applicants.

 

Grant applicants will be notified of the Travel Award Committee's decision on June 30, 2021 or shortly thereafter. Please read the description and instructions for each award application carefully before submitting.

Anticipated awards for the 2021 MetSoc:

 

The Barringer Crater Company Travel Award for graduate and undergraduate students (Open to all nationalities). Applicants must be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The 2021 Brian Mason Awards ($1500 USD), sponsored the International Meteorite Collectors Association (IMCA) (Open to all nationalities). If selected for this award, the student must submit a ~2500-word popular article based on his/her research for publication in Meteorite Times by October, 2021, and an essay for IMCA's newsletter, Insights. Applicants must be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The Darryl Pitt/Macovic Collection Travel Award for students (Open to all nationalities). Applicants must also be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The Elsevier Travel Award for early career scientists (PhD received 2017-2021) (Open to all nationalities). Applicants must be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The Meteoritical Society Travel Awards for international members with limited financial resources (low-income countries). Applicants must also be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The Meteoritical Society Travel Awards for early career scientists (PhD received 2017–2021) (Open to all nationalities). Applicants must also be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The O. Richard Norton Award for students and early career scientists (PhD received 2017–2021) (Open to all nationalities). Applicants must also be members of The Meteoritical Society*.

 

The NASA Planetary Sciences Division Travel Grants (Open to qualified students enrolled in programs at U.S. institutions).
